Solutions That Fit The Problem

Resolving a construction defect (or property damage) starts with identifying the problem and how it occurred, then providing reasonable solutions. Often that requires creative problem-solving to fit the situation, like installing a high performance waterproof membrane instead of reconstructing an entire deck. Our goal is to provide reasonable solutions that address the problem and meet performance expectations.

“It Is What It Is”

Investigating construction problems sometimes reveal “truth” that our clients’ don’t want to hear. However, honest and lasting resolutions can only occur when we tell it like it is. We don’t recommend cutting corners, just to save a buck, but we also don’t make recommendations to correct issues that don’t need fixing.

Who, What, When, How & Why  (Our forensic methodology)

Our forensic methods start with asking the right questions and then using the appropriate tools, methods AND resources to answer them – not more, not less. For example, moisture damage in a building envelope can occur for numerous reasons, but the most “obvious” isn’t always correct.  To correct a problem the cause and source must be determined first. Each case is unique and requires a unique, un-biased strategy and assessment.

A Team Approach

When appropriate, Winstead and Williamson “team up” to handle cases together. Winstead provides expertise in design, plans, building codes and structural issues. Williamson provides expertise in field investigation, building envelope assessment and cost analysis.  Many cases can be assigned to best match the skills and expertise of Winstead or Williamson, but in many situations Winstead and Williamson team up to be most effective.
